RESUMO

Objective: To analyze the difference in blood uric acid levels between patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and healthy women of childbearing age, and to investigate the correlation between body composition and blood uric acid levels. Methods: A total of 153 eligible childbearing age patients with PCOS treated at Tianjin Medical University General Hospital from January 2018 to March 2022 were selected, and 153 healthy women with normal menstruation were selected as the control group. Fasting blood uric acid levels were measured by venous blood test, and body composition was measured by a body composition analyzer. Group comparisons were made to analyze the correlation between body composition and blood uric acid levels. Results: The incidence of hyperuricemia was higher in patients with PCOS than that in the control group [30.1% (46/153) vs 2.0% (3/153)], with a statistically significant difference (χ2=44.429, P<0.001). Blood uric acid level was also significantly higher in patients with PCOS than that in the control group [(371±98) vs (265±67) μmol/L; t=11.170, P<0.001]. Among PCOS patients, there were statistically significant differences in weight, body mass index (BMI), body fat mass, skeletal muscle mass, percent body fat, lean body weight, fat mass/lean body weight, percent skeletal muscle, and visceral fat level between the hyperuricemia group and the normal blood uric acid group (all P<0.001), but no significant difference was observed in waist-hip ratio (P=0.348). The following body composition indicators: weight, BMI, waist-hip ratio, body fat mass, skeletal muscle mass, percent body fat, visceral fat level, lean body weight, and fat mass/lean body weight in all subjects, the PCOS patients and the control group, were positively correlated with blood uric acid levels (all P<0.01). The blood uric acid level in PCOS obese patients was higher than that in non-obese PCOS patients, and the difference was statistically significant [(425±83) vs (336±91) μmol/L; t=6.133, P<0.001]. The blood uric acid level in central obesity PCOS patients was also higher than that in non-central obesity PCOS patients [(385±95) vs (299±79) μmol/L], the difference was statistically significant (t=4.261, P<0.001). The blood uric acid level in normal-weight obese PCOS patients was higher than that in normal-weight non-obese PCOS patients [(333±73) vs (277±54) μmol/L], and the difference was statistically significant (t=2.848, P=0.006). Blood uric acid levels in normal-weight [(315±74) vs (255±67) μmol/L], overweight [(362±102) vs (276±57) μmol/L], and obese PCOS patients [(425±83) vs (303±74) μmol/L] were all higher than those in the corresponding control groups, with statistically significant differences (all P<0.001). Conclusions: PCOS patients have a higher incidence of hyperuricemia than healthy women of childbearing age. Blood uric acid levels are closely correlated with body composition indicators, such as weight, BMI, waist-hip ratio, body fat mass, skeletal muscle mass, percent body fat, and visceral fat level. Body composition analysis of women with PCOS could help identify potentially obese people more accurately and carry out individualized treatment, thereby reducing the risk of metabolic abnormalities.

RESUMO

The CatSper channel is known as one of the most important Ca²⁺ channels on the cell membrane of mammalian sperm and plays a key role in the motility, hyperactivation and fertilization function of sperm. The CatSper protein, expressed exclusively in the principal piece of the sperm tail, is composed of CatSper1-4 and 5 auxiliary unitsβ,γ,δ and ε, and has an essential part in the functional and structural domains of Ca²⁺as well as in the spatiotemporal regulation of the P-Tyr protein, sperm hyperactivation, efficient sperm migration in the oviduct, egg penetration, and normal fertility. Recent studies show that functional deficiency of CatSper seriously affects sperm function, and the loss of any one of its 9 subunits may lead to male reproductive dysfunction. This paper outlines recent advances in the studies of the CatSperprotein, focusing on its expression, location, structure, and regulation,as well as itsinfluence on sperm hyperactivation and male reproduction.

RESUMO

Objective: To study whether the neuroprotective effect of tibolone during cerebral ischemia injury is associated with its anti-apoptosis effect. Methods: A total of 30 healthy adult female Sprague Dawley rats were evenly randomized into sham-operated group, ovariectomized group, and tibolone group(0.25 mg/[kg·d]). Brain ischemia model was induced by left middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO) for 2 hours followed by 24 hours reperfusion. All animals were killed and the cerebral infarction volumes were determined by 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazlium chloride (TTC) staining and image analysis. Apoptotic cells were labeled by Terminal deoxynucleotidyl Transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL). The expression of Bcl-2, Bax, and caspase-3 was analyzed by immunohistochemical SP method. Results: Compared with the sham-operated group(P<0.05), cerebral infarction volume was significantly reduced, TUNEL positive cells was significantly decreased(P<0.01), Bcl-2 positive cells were significantly increased, and Bax(P<0.01), caspase-3 postive cells were significantly reduced compared with tibolone treated groups (P<0.01). Conclusion: Tibolone can inhibit the neuron apoptosis following cerebral ischemia injury in OVX rats, displaying a neuroprotective effect.

RESUMO

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To analyze the opportunity and condition of aeromedical transportation in critically burn patients.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Eighteen severely burn patients were operated by aeromedical transportation. Among them, four patients were transported in the shock stage and fourteen patients were transported after shock stage. Some aspects of treatment were introduced including escharectomy, clinical index, equipment of medicine, and so on. The transportation card and abstract of case file were recorded carefully before aeromedical transportation. When there were over 2 patients, those with more severe burns received the treatment in the priority.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Each aeromedical transportation airplane carried 1 to 6 cases, and flies 420 to 2 500 km for 1.5 to 3. 5 hours. The patients were safely arrived at destination. Except one died for multiple organ failure, others were cured during further treatment.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Provide that the conditions were permissive and preparation were adequate, it is safe to carry out aeromedical transportation during shock stage.</p>

RESUMO

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To detect the characteristic chromosomal changes in Chinese children with infantile autism.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Chromosome aberrations in 68 cases of infantile autism were analyzed by high-resolution G-banding and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) with bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) clones.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Chromosomal changes were detected in 4 cases by high-resolution G-banding: one case with t(4;6)(q23-24;p21), one case with longer p arm of chromosome 21 (21p+), and two cases with pericentric inversion of chromosome 9 (inv(9)) which was confirmed by C-banding. BAC FISH analysis was performed to confirm these observations and changes in chromosomes 2, 7 and 15, which are often found in autistic children. There could exist the translocation of t(4;6) (q25-26;p21.1). Chromosome changes often reported previously in chromosomes 2, 7 and 15 were not detected in this study. Inv(9) and 21p+ were not confirmed with present BAC clones.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Chromosomal changes were detected in four cases of infantile autism, with a detectability of 5.9% , far lower than that (10% to 48%) reported in literature. The breakpoint of translocation could be detected more accurately using BAC FISH method.</p>
